WATER PURIFICATION SCHEMES TO BE EXTENDED TO ALL DISTRICTS IN TAMIL NADU 5-DAY BHARAT NIRMAN PUBLIC INFORMATION CAMPAIGN CONCLUDES IN THURAIPAKKAM
Chennai, September 7, 2006
The Tamil Nadu Government proposes to extend water purification projects, currently implemented by the Anna University in Kancheepuram and Ramanathapuram, to all other Districts in Tamil Nadu.
This was announced by the Vice Chancellor, Anna University, Dr. D. Vishwanathan while addressing the Valedictory Session of the five day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at Thuraipakkam, near Chennai, here today.
Emphasizing the need to protect environment and promote constructive development, he observed that it is not the responsibility of the Government or that of a few industries alone but is the responsibility of all sections of society. Dr. Vishwanathan also stressed the need for education in general and vocational education in particular for the country to overcome poverty and emerge as a developed country. He highlighted the role of parents in this regard.
At the valedictory session, sports kits of Nehru Yuvak Kendra were given away to Village Sports Clubs in the region. In addition, artificial limbs and tri cycles were given to disabled persons by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu.
The five-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign was organized by the Press Information Bureau in collaboration with DAVP, DFP, Song and Drama Division and other media units.
