INDIA POST A RETAIL NETWORK
DAYANIDHI MARAN DISCUSSED AT CONSULTATIVE MEETING

Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology said that the India Post has taken up the challenge of balancing between the expectation of the customers demanding more facility and the need to increase revenues in order to bring down the deficit addressing members of parliamentary consultative committee attached to Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in Chennai today. The Minister has proposed several measures including the India Post becoming a retail network, with provision to bring technological solutions for benefit of common man.
Shri Maran also added that Postal services will also take other forms of products and services in support of strengthening the network. The challenges will be tackle in an comprehensive and inclusive manner with its dedicated manpower wide spread network the postal services will enable and fulfill its universal service obligation in the forthcoming 11th plan. Induction of technology and capacity building for all the staff will be provided in all spheres of its activity.
No longer it will be a traditional postal work relating to mails, money transfer or savings bank but a large number of facilities both public and private will be provided to increase the popularity. From collecting and verifying information on behalf of the Election Commission and the Registrar General of India, the post office will be accepting loan applications on behalf of the, income tax returns, job applications for UPSC, State PSCs and Universities, Passport etc. Postal finance marts will provide traditional post office saving bank services and financial services in the banking and insurance sector under one roof, including distribution select mutual funds and bonds, Shri Maran said.
Moving towards total computerization and networking India Post promises to be the strongest and most wide spread presence of the central government in the remotest part of the country. Retail network is one of the pillars of India Post, it has a fund of goodwill and assures a reliable and committed service. The winds of India Post will provide another 150 years of vibrant and dedicated service, Shri Dayanidhi Maran informed the Consultative Committee.
Members also gave suggestions for the improvement of postal services in the country. The Members of Lok Sabha Shri Suresh Kurup, Shri Vanlalzawma, Shri Abdullakutty, Shri D.B. Patil, Shri Sita Ram yadav. Shri A.K.Sinha, CMD, BSNL, Ms.Jyotsna Diesh, Secretary, Department of Posts attended the meeting.
