I&B Ministry to launch Public Information Campaigns in TN
Info Expo opens at Thirukuvalai on July 2

Press Information Bureau (PIB) under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is all set to launch a series of Public Information Campaigns (PICs) in Tamil Nadu focusing on the flagship programmes of the UPA Government from next month.
Christened as Info Expo, the campaigns with the central theme of "Empowering India" will help various government departments and organisations to fulfill their commitment towards proactive disclosure of information on their policies and programmes under the Right to Information Act.
In the first phase, six campaigns have been planned primarily in the districts in which the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) has come into force. Chennai and Madurai where the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) is being implemented will also be covered.
The PIC series in the state commences at Thirukuvalai in Nagapattinam District on July 2. The five-day campaign will include intensive grass-root level multi media presentations in 30 villages spread over 11 blocks in the district.
At Thirukuvalai, an impressive exhibition is being mounted in which various central and state government departments, public sector undertakings, non-governmental organisations and self-help groups will showcase their products, services and achievements. Seminars, workshops and cultural events have also been planned as part of the campaign.

Union and State Ministers are scheduled to participate in the events to be held at the base expo at Thirukuvalai. Senior officials of various departments have also been invited to explain about the schemes and programmes launched by the Central and State governments.
Various media units of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, including Directorate of Field Publicity, Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity, Song & Drama Division, Publications Division, Doordarshan and All India Radio are participating in the PICs. Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports will also play an important role in the campaigns.
The campaign is scheduled to be held in Dindigul district during July 9-13, in Madurai district during July 16-20 and in Cuddalore district during August 5-9. The PICs will also be held in Pondicherry during August 11-15 and in Chennai during August 19-23.
